about

Suddenly awoken by the sound of a distant drum, Sey-chan rose from her slumber in the early morning to see a group of peasant boys in an empty field where crop once was in years past. They were half dressed in red, half dressed in blue while one was playing a fast, war-like rhythm on a large wooden instrument hanging around his shoulders. Soon a vigorous battle of timber swords and shields erupted; both sides were taking heavy casualties as the boys fell in a dramatic feigned crumple after being struck by an opponent's weapon, only to giggle after laying still for not yet ten seconds. They would then get up and run eagerly back to their side of the battle to restart all over again. Even from a distance, it was clear that the children were enjoying everything immensely, whether they had permission to actually be there or not. As the front line pushed back and forth with countless warriors lost over the hours, the red side eventually emerged victorious. As the soldiers kneeled before their lieutenant who delivered a victory speech frequently interjected by surrounding guffaws, the boys in red cheered in celebration over their triumph today. Tomorrow remains to be decided.
